My Journey as a Minimalist:
As I sit here with the Lord researching for my next book. I came across a bible scripture that stood out to me, like most do…
And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word, And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful. Mark 4:18-19
In Mark 4, Jesus is sharing the parable of the “Sower.” The sower sows the word of God and the enemy comes to steal the word.
In verse 18, the word is sown among the thorns and in verse 19 the word is unfruitful when sown among the thorns because the person who has the thorns are so focused on worldly possessions. These people are deceived by money/riches and because of this, the word of God is not”effective” in their lives.
The Lord told me when I read this scripture, that “they” (the people) felt safe in their riches/money. They didn’t feel safe with Him.
Money can make us feel secure and safe.
We feel a sense of security when all the bills are paid and when we have a lot of money in our bank accounts, but our security as Christians should not come from things/money.
This mindset must to change. Christians should feel safe because we trust God to take care of us, not because of a job or money we have in the bank(riches).
Matthew 6:25-34 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
This is basically saying that we as Christians should not focus on “taking care” of ourselves because God will take care of our needs. When we know this, then we can focus on helping those in need.
The enemy will deceive us and cause us to be afraid, worried or stressed out because of the lack of money.
Fear and worry reveals that we don’t trust God to take care of us.
Let’s change that mindset today. Trust God to take care of you not money or riches.
